Engineer with 18 years in production systems. 10 years of C#, .NET, and SQL Server in banking and US healthcare analytics, then 8+ years running the data platform and AWS infrastructure behind the Community Health Toolkit, which 180,000+ health workers use every day.

Experience

Medic (Community Health Toolkit) · Remote

Senior Application Developer & Data System Lead · Jul 2025 – Sep 2026
Data System Lead · Jan 2023 – Jun 2025
Impact Tech Lead · May 2018 – Dec 2022

  • Designed the data platform behind program reporting for ministries of health.
  • Cut refresh time by up to 80% with incremental updates and batching. Dashboards that ran 24 to 36 hours behind moved to near real time.
  • Led the PostgreSQL 9.6 to 18 upgrade, from the cost estimate through an Ansible-automated cutover. Moved every downstream consumer over.
  • Was the senior escalation point for production deployments in 10+ countries, on call for incidents and the reviews after them.
  • Moved production from EC2 to Amazon EKS, and ran self-hosted Kubernetes on government servers.
  • Automated releases for partner projects with GitHub Actions, Helm, and Terraform.
  • Added arm64 image builds so the same images ran on Graviton servers and Apple M1 Macs. That let deployments move to Graviton and cut hosting costs by up to 30%.
  • Designed the impact framework, and argued for keeping full history when the plan was a rolling 12 months. That history later let Medic separate the app’s impact from COVID’s.
  • Proposed and designed the Impact Metrics API in cht-core (Node.js), which gave partners impact data without database access.
  • Retired Klipfolio and the other paid BI tools for Apache Superset, saving costs for the organization and its partners.
  • Locked down Superset with database catalog restrictions and RBAC.
  • Was the main technical contact for a national Ministry of Health, and ran its nationwide upgrade of production instances.
  • Visited health workers in the field and turned what I saw into platform and config changes.
  • Ran the data systems team and mentored engineers from other organizations, the community, and partners.
